Overheard in the copy center

Preamble:  Next year our area is opening a second junior high that will feed into our high school.  As a result we are losing about 15 teachers because we are changing into a high school that will only be 10-12 grade.  Several teachers have had meetings with the new admin there to express interest in working at the new Jr high school, but there can be no jobs given or promises made until a certain date or it is against the law (school law).

Someone asks Mr B, "Are you going to be here next year?"  (Mr B is a math teacher who is also a retired principal.)

Mr B says, " I don't know yet."

The man teacher, "Why not?  Are you going to the Jr high?"

Mr B answers, "No, I am waiting to see if Mr G gets a job here next year or at the Jr high.  If he does not I will give him my job because he has a wife and kids and is building a house out here.  I don't need it.  He has a family."

As I was listening to this tears sprung in my eyes.

This is why I love my job, who I work with and where I work.

27 years waiting........

27 years ago I got married and copied several of my mothers recipes.
Today I made one for the first time.
Why oh why, did I wait so long.
Clam Chowder that tasted like Ivers in Seattle.
So warm, so thick, so tasty.
(made with fat free half and half, who knew?)

Today certainly was a soup day today.  The high today was 9 degrees and
the temperature when I left for work was -3.
I felt bad for my delivery drivers today, the UPS man, FED X and the Office Depot delivery men were so cold and so bundled.  And the freight they dropped off.......so very cold.

Welcome 2013

Today as I took my old calendar off the wall and put up a new one I looked through it and I was reminded of so many good memories.
  • We attended basketball games for Kelsi and Logan and track meets for Jake. Then track meets for Logan and then in the winter started more basketball games for Logan.
  •  I team taught a Primary class for a whole year and loved those girls.
  • I perfected trifle.
  • Both Kelsi and Logan took drivers ed.  One in the spring, one in the fall.
  •  Family dinners with Faith and Kyle and lots of friendly visits.
  •  We had a fire in our mountain and were evacuated to my sisters house for a few days.
  •  Utah is a meeting spot it seems and my sisters' cute twins came to see their grandma and I was able to see them one day.
  •  I learned that I love playing BINGO.
  • I started my second year at Westlake and it was alot easier knowing what I was doing and what was coming up next.
  • My sister's daughter attends Weber State so we have gotten to know her through visits.
  •  This year Thanksgiving was such a special time as I got to have my parents and brother and sister here and have extended family gathered for the first time in years.
As I look over last years calendar I see that we worked long hours at our jobs but we still  cleaned, mowed, washed, and shoveled.  I kept track of Saturday fun and we did alot.  For this I am grateful.
  •  I also met friends for dinner, met friends for yogurt and took meals to friends who needed service,
  •  I visit taught and Kim and Logan home taught.
  • How grateful I was that Kim and Logan home taught the way they were supposed to as a lady who they visit passed away and they were able to be of service to the family because they knew them and had visited them regularly.

As I look over the calendar of last year I realize that I have been so blessed with a job, my health and to be surrounded by those I love and who love me.
BRRRRRR ! This morning when I took Logan to basketball practice the temperature was -3. When I walked out the front door to my car, the air hit me and it was something I have not felt in a long time. It actually took my breath away. We had a beautiful snow storm hit right at Christmas with over 10 inches of snow. Now because it has been so cold it is all still here. Luckily it melts off the roads. I am reminded of growing up in Alaska and having the snow plows push the snow so high that I could walk along the top of them and wave at my mom in the house.

So what will 2013 bring?  One big change is that Colby is living with us and has a job here in Utah.  Alida is with us too looking for a job and hopefully all will work for them.  Jake is running for his last year at UVU now with indoor track and later as his last year in outdoor.   I hope work won't be too much work for me!  Kelsi will finish up 11 grade and Logan will finish 10th.  Jake will graduate UVU.  Spring will come with warmer weather and track meets I can attend.  Then summer, my favorite.  The whole year is ahead of me and I hope to greet it with optimism.
