Quote heard on Sunday

This was heard on Sunday at church we were honoring the pioneers who came to Utah and entered Salk Lake Valley in 1847. It is for us now.

We all face rocky ridges with the wind in our face and winter coming on too soon.
I liked it so I scribbled it down.

Camp Bartlett

Logan is at Scout camp this week. He is sleeping in a tent and going to pass off some merit badges.

We have always had a small, thin pad for the campers to use like the blue mat pictured below. Before Kelsi went to girls camp I remembered that Fred Meyer had a nice soft thick pad and so we went to Smiths Marketplace here (it's the equivalent of Fred Meyer) and found a nice pad like I remembered. Pictured above. Logan was happy to take it with him to camp.

He is way up north by Logan Utah by the Idaho border. I hope he is having a great time.

Taking Kelsi to EFY

We took Kelsi to EFY at BYU Monday morning. She was coming off a high from a great ward Youth Conference held at Camp Williams. Our youth leaders did a great job with the conference. She was so excited to attend EFY. She is meeting up with her dearest friend from WA named Kylie. They are roommates and are going to have the best time.

True Friends "I can count on forever and a day"

Be That Friend

Words and music by Michael McLean

Well, your friends know what's right, and your friends know what's wrong,
And your friends all know sometimes it's hard to choose.
But the friend who helps you see where the choices will lead,
Is the kind of friend you never want to lose.

It's the friend who leads with love, doesn't push, doesn't shove,
Just reminds you of the truth you've always known.
Then does more than just talk, takes your hand and starts to walk
by your side along the road that leads back home.

And this friend seems to see all the great things you'll be
Even when some things you do would prove him wrong.
But he always believes that the real you he sees
Is a champion he's simply cheering on.

And the love that you feel from a friend that's this real
Is as powerful as anything on earth.
For it lifts and it grows and it strengthens and it flows
It's what allows a sould to feel just what they're worth.

So many lonely souls are calling, and our brightest stars would not be falling
If only they had a friend, a real friend.

Ev'ryone hopes to find one true friend who's the kind
They can count on for forever and a day.
Be that friend, be that kind that you've prayed you might find,
And you'll always have a best friend come what may.
I have known these friends for 32 years. Yesterday we had a progressive lunch. Janine came from Springville and Denise from American Fork. Lunch at my house and dessert at Faiths. Years ago I had a friend named Mary Sant who sang like an angel. She sang this song at a friends going away luncheon. I hummed it to myself all day yesterday. I am truly lucky to have such great friends.

American Fork "Steel Days" Parade

I wanted to attend the Freedom Fest Parade in Provo this year. I did not make it and when I read about how crowded it was in the newspaper I was happy I did not go. 3/4 of a million people attended and the crowds were 10 people deep on the sidewalk.
This parade was crowded enough for me. I hate that they throw candy. It makes kids crazy. They cry that they are getting enough. They stood in front of me and waited for the candy and blocked my view. I mean right in front of me....not their parents...me.
A little boy by me had his pocket so jammed he could not fit one more piece in and he was not using his other pocket. A family by me was not letting their kids eat theirs and they each had a sackful. I highly doubt that when they got home they would not even want it because it is "parade candy" weird stuff that does not break or melt. Thanks for letting me rant now on to my post:
American Fork High School Marching Band is nationally known for it's excellence. I was so happy to see them live marching down the street. They were great! On the left side of the picture wearing all white is my friend's daughter. Yes, she's a drum major of the American Fork Marching Band. I was so proud of her when she came by me. I yelled,"way to go Hailey"! She of course did not even let on that she heard me and of course I knew that she would not even move a muscle on her face. Her mom told me so.

When my town's high school, Westlakes', band came through I was so happy to see them. It's a brand new school finishing up their first year and starting their second. Kelsi will be attending there this fall.

And UVU had a float in the parade. Jake attends there so I took a picture. I wanted the dance team to be there that competed on Dancing with the Stars and won, but they sent cheerleaders instead.
It was a great parade and it made me know for sure that the Pioneer Day parade in SLC is for sure out of the question for me.
Faith and I attended the quilt show and after parking and walking down the sidewalk past the set up rides with all their sounds we approached the food area. I said, "Stop and smell" "What does this remind you of?" With the sounds of the rides in the background and the smell of carnival food we both instantly were taken back to the age of 12 and Seaside Oregon and my grandparents and the downtown area. My grandma had a friend named Abbey who owned a snack store that sold cotton candy, carmel corn and pronto pups and my grandpa worked the "Tilt a Whirl". Oh blessed memories!

It's about time!

Logan is 13. It's time to get his clothes off the children's hangers! Look at how nice it looks! And as an added bonus the shirts don't fall off!
Do you think all this can fit in these 2 boxes? Flat rate mailing boxes, these are the biggest ones they make. I have a friend in Wa who loves my outgrown boys clothes.

It fit and then some. We had a little room so Kelsi added some girl clothes.

I bagged up the "baby" hangers and took them to a lady in my neighborhood who is having twins and she also had 2 other little children. She will need them.......and more! Guess how many I had???? over 50!
