Main Secretary Too Sweet

Our main secretary has a heart of gold. Today she brought dinner in a crock pot to work to cook while she worked. The dinner is for a lady she knows who had surgery today. She will drop it off on her way home from work.

Our custodian found a boy in the bathroom wearing football cleats. He had him come into the office to call for other shoes. He started crying and she found out he had no other shoes to wear. She had him take off the cleat to see what size it was and his little foot was squished in there. He was also not wearing socks. (Cold today and some snow)
She went to Walmart and got him new shoes and socks and got back by the time he went to lunch. She called him down and had him put them on. She was a little worried that they were too big and he said as he was grinning from ear to ear, "Oh, no they feel good my toes have room!"

The Water Filter for the Pitcher almost caused a break down!

Monday: Worked 9 hours, Went to 5 Guys in Orem, Went to University Mall for track shoes, washed PE clothes after day was done.

Tuesday: Worked 8 hours, Walked home and got into car and got kids from Track, Found out Jake was leaving town and had him get all his clothes clean (Jake's clothes are big and sometimes only 3 or 4 things fit in one washing), Tidied up and went to bed.

Wednesday: Worked normal shift, Walked home and got into car and got kids from Track, Preheated oven before I left, Kids and hubby at park at 5 30 to go to BYU basketball game with YW/YM, Running to store friends son had surgery so taking them something and VTing at 7 30, Helping Jake pack for his trip to South Dakota.

Thursday: Kelsi has hair appt at 8 30, Take her to school, Work, Parent-Teacher conferences from 3 30 to 8 (is it possible for me to visit 16 classes?), Logan plays church ball at 6, Hubby does church calling all night, Kelsi had dance at 7, VT other person at 7 15,

So my insides are churning, too much to do, ran the water pitcher through the dishwasher before work, getting dinner out, reach into fridge, WHAT no water? Oh...its'....shoot that has to sit 15 min and then 2 pitcher ran through the filter. Guys just grab a bottle of water from the pantry, I know it's not cold please just grab it and eat. Tears ekk out, what? I'm crying over a filter?

Kindergarten Registration

It's done
It's over
We were told by the district that we would have 180 kids enrolled in kindergarten classes next year.
I worked 9 hours on Monday and 8 hours today.
We enrolled 107.
We set up in our schools entrance, we pulled out our copier, we brought out clip boards and set up tables with chairs, we brought out our books for them to look at and we covered a table with white paper and put crayons out. (We recovered that table 3 times each day)
They got special attention, they got special assistance, they got my undivided attention, they got a treat when they left.
Now we go back to work, all is put away, now when they come in we have to squeeze them in while I do my other work and preform triage at lunch (that is what we call it during lunch recess when it is relentlessly busy).
Because they either were too busy to come in or picked up a 17 page packet and did not return it yet (by the way it takes over 20 min to fill out) they will have to do it in our office.
Sadly next year our class sizes will be huge. That is the fault of the economy. We are projecting 29 in each kindergarten class and 34 to 36 in our other classes.
It is sad, it is not our fault and I don't like getting mad at about that.
In 2 years they will be opening another elementary school in our town and that will ease our burden.
Sorry you kindergartners but when you are a first grader it will be better.

Active Weekend

Jake jumped at Weber State on Saturday.
This is the article that is in todays paper plus he is featured on the UVU Sports homepage with an old picture of him jumping at BYU.

• UVU track: At Ogden, Utah Valley won three events at the Wildcat Indoor Open. Senior Jessica Wortley won the women's 400-meter dash while Jake Brydson and senior Jami Daniels took titles in the men and women's triple jumps.

Wortley won the 400m in 1:00.90. Daniels won the triple jump in 34-01.35, just ahead of teammate Makira Kuan, who was second in 33-6.75. Daniels was fourth in the long jump (16-4.5) and Kuan was second in the high jump (5-3.75).

Other top finishes for the UVU women were Nancy Romer (third, 400m, 1:01.74) and Stephanie Talbot (third, 800m, 2:27.37), Becky Reeves (fourth, shot put, 43-11.25.

For the men, Brydson won the triple jump (40-7.25) and Kenny Millard and Scott Moake were 3-4 in the high jump, respectively, both jumping 6-6. Chandler Rieske was fourth in the long jump (19-7) and fifth in the 55m hurdles (8.12).

Utah Valley will compete at the GWC Indoor Championshipson Feb. 26-27 at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.

Logan played in his last basketball game for the Westlake Thunder as a 7th grade AAU player.

It was a disappointed season. It started with such hope and promise but these boys try as hard as they could, they could not get a win. I blame it on many things but mostly on the fact that they did not practice enough, there were too many players to get a flow going with the constant substitutions and then at the end they just felt like they could not do it. I like other moms sitting around me is just glad the season is over and we are proud that we supported our boys game after game.

Logan went on his first snow camp out. I am thankful to the men who went who knew what they were doing and have done this before. They took good care of the boys who went. It was a little scary as a mother looking out at night knowing how cold it was out there in the Provo Canyon. Logan said the snow was up to his knees, he helped both pitch the tent and get the fire going to cook their tin foil dinners and he said Badge ate more of my donuts than I did. That's about it. He is not a complainer and said he had fun playing in the snow and was never not that cold.

Debate Class

This semester at school Kelsi and Logan have a class together. The teacher divided them into groups and put them in the same group.
(They have the funniest and best relationship. They love being together at home and are quite the same in what they think is funny)
When they got in the same group they fell into their easy relationship without thinking and a girl said are you two a couple? That made them laugh so hard and Kelsi said that is my brother. Most people in the class did not know that prior to that day.
Logan is as tall as her now and I suspect he will pass her soon as I think she is done growing.

Kindergarten Registration

No,not yet but soon.
I am getting ready for Kindergarten next year.
Today I made all my copies, nice crisp clean copies. Some of the originals I had to track down so I could make clear, clean copies. This was real important to me.
In all our packet has 17 pages in it. Plus an extra folder to hand them which is a glossy book with a Get Away Today booklet, a child find envelope and a brochure about kindergarten.
Registration is Feb 22 and 23.
We need a total of 320 packets and today I, with a little help from 2 great people, made 140.
I can't wait to see those cute little 4 and 5 year olds who will come so excited to be in school. (well, I hope they will be excited)

Super Good Super Bowl Dip

You must all make this dip! It's so good, skip dinner and have this!

Creamy Carmel Toffee Dip
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup Karo Syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-8ox pkg cream cheese, room temperature
1 pkg Heath toffee bits or pieces

Combine sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, butter and Karo syrup in a large sauce pan and place on stovetop over medium heat stirring continually.
Bring carmel mixture to boil. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Set carmel aside and allow to cool for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
After carmel is cooked, place cream cheese and carmel in a mixing bowl and beat until smooth.
Fold in chopped toffee.
Serve with any of your favorite fruits or pretzels.

Looking back at these ingredients how can this not be good!

During our superbowl party we did not see that this had to set for up to 2 hours!!!!! Ekkkks!
Lucky for us we "lurked" on facebook for 2 hours for old friends from our childhood, boy did we find them. All of a sudden....2 hours had passed. The dip was cool and ready.
YUM
