Kindergarten Registration

It's done
It's over
We were told by the district that we would have 180 kids enrolled in kindergarten classes next year.
I worked 9 hours on Monday and 8 hours today.
We enrolled 107.
We set up in our schools entrance, we pulled out our copier, we brought out clip boards and set up tables with chairs, we brought out our books for them to look at and we covered a table with white paper and put crayons out. (We recovered that table 3 times each day)
They got special attention, they got special assistance, they got my undivided attention, they got a treat when they left.
Now we go back to work, all is put away, now when they come in we have to squeeze them in while I do my other work and preform triage at lunch (that is what we call it during lunch recess when it is relentlessly busy).
Because they either were too busy to come in or picked up a 17 page packet and did not return it yet (by the way it takes over 20 min to fill out) they will have to do it in our office.
Sadly next year our class sizes will be huge. That is the fault of the economy. We are projecting 29 in each kindergarten class and 34 to 36 in our other classes.
It is sad, it is not our fault and I don't like getting mad at about that.
In 2 years they will be opening another elementary school in our town and that will ease our burden.
Sorry you kindergartners but when you are a first grader it will be better.
