"My Oh My"

To use a phrase I heard over and over when I lived in Seattle "My Oh My".
I can hear him say it in my head.....Dave Niehaus giving us the play by play of a Seattle Mariners baseball game.
That is the title of this blog post of random thoughts, and in no particular order.

A cute student came in with a note in an envelope with a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup taped on the front and my name on it. Inside was a thank you card with the nicest message to me saying thanks for making copies and being nice and it was signed a teacher...I have no idea who sent it but it made my day.

I do accept bribes. After an exhausting day I came in the next day expecting to be more caught up, but no it was crazy busy and a student brought me a full size Mars bar and said can you do these copies for my teacher now?

I have worked so many hours this past week.....long, long days. The day before school started I worked from 7 to 9:30. The weather has hot it's hottest this week with temps right at 100. When I get in the car after work I press my back against the hot seat and it feels so good. I brought out my foot bath and I have used it 2 nights in a row.

Me and the copier service tech have become fast friends. He says in 3 weeks I will not see him and I will miss him. (HA)!  I have seen him everyday except today. One day the lunchroom brought out extra chocolate cake and I cut him the biggest piece to show my thanks. He says the problem is that the machines sit all summer and dry out and the parts develop a ridge and then we make them work so hard. I'll say just Wednesday alone with 2 copiers running I made 9,000 copies on just white copy paper. Not to mention blue, green, goldenrod, buff, yellow or pink. Card stock or any other color not in the drawers in the machines also were made.

On a particular stressful time when both machines were acting up and I was continually unjamming one and then the other I referred to them as my twins. Baby A and Baby B and someone always needed my help. Just like a set of fussy babies someone always needed me.  It helped get through a hard time.

Our class sizes are huge.  We have added 600 new students during the registration time.  The French teacher teaches one day at our school and one day at Lehi.  I really like her.  She said some good advice one day as we were visiting.  She said I try not to make the students feel bad that the classes are large.  It's not their fault.  Then that very same day I had a teacher in there asking for more copies added to some I had already made and she said they just keep adding kids to my classes and I said let's try not to make the kids feel like it's their fault.  It helped.

Small victory....I asked for and got a big cutter that is on order right now. One that can cut more than 10 papers at once. YEA!

Monday as the requests were stacking up and I was falling farther and farther behind and I was thinking about the first day of school and if the teachers would say well I would have had this handout for you but the copy lady could not get it done, a cute teacher was in there making letters and she said "You know if you are at a restaurant and you are not getting good service and you start getting annoyed and then the server comes and says the rolls are in the oven and because you know what is happening you can relax and it is ok. You should email the school and say that you are far behind but you are doing your best." That was good advice. I sent out an email just stating that I was behind and asked for their patience. The responses I got back were so nice. It helped.

And on a final note:
Logan was in his Spanish class today. Some kids left and came back. They went to get their homework copied. When they came back in the room they said, "The new copy lady is nice." He said he just sat there, did not say anything but he smiled.
I smiled too.
